My husband and I bought our first house recently and were extremely excited to move in. The house had a lot of amazing features like a big yard, modern appliances and being in close proximity to my parents. We did snag a big house on a large plot of land quite cheap due to it being outdated inside and having no HVAC system.

Yes, that is correct, the house I moved into did not have a HVAC system. Apparently the people who owned the house had a central HVAC system a long time ago. The machine died, they ripped it out and only relied on portable HVAC since the home was just a summer home for them. Now that my husband and I live there, we want both heating and air conditioning, and not a portable one.

Portable air conditioning wastes electricity and looks terrible. Space heaters are not exactly safe and I can’t even imagine how many I would need to buy. So obviously, the two of us came to the conclusion that we needed to get HVAC in the house. We decided to start small and only focus on the cooling element since summer was around the corner.

The first thing we looked into were the options for cooling equipment. I learned about central air conditioning, high velocity AC, split systems and heat pumps. There were so many factors to consider like do we want ductwork or not? Do we want zone control? Does the machine need to be both heating and cooling or do we just want an air conditioner? In order to narrow down what we needed and wanted, I had to call a local HVAC company for help.
