One HVAC option that isn’t talked about is a water source heat pump. This I have found basically is how a geothermal heat pump works, only it relies on a nearby body of water in order to work. Since the winery sits on a dry plot of land, I skipped quite a bit of research on that one. I moved right away into the third and final option, a geothermal heat pump.

A geothermal heat pump actually uses the ground heat rather than the air. Think about it, in the summer what is cooler, the air or under the ground? The same idea is in the winter too. Relying on the ground temperature is way more effective and a lot cleaner. The issue for me was the installation process for a geothermal system. The HVAC technician would have to do some serious tunneling into the grape fields in order to install the horizontal or vertical loop system.

So with all those factors considered, I obviously liked the idea of installing a ductless heat pump in my wine facility!
